Emily Austin says Sophie Cunningham has brought more eyes to the WNBA

For better or worse, Cunningham becoming part of the mainstream news has helped the WNBA’s popularity in 2026.

That’s what Austin wrote in her recent X post, praising Cunningham for bringing more eyes to the W.

“Whether you like Sophie Cunningham or not, you have to admit she’s brought a level of attention to the WNBA that most players could only dream of,” Austin wrote on X.

She added, “Personally, I think she’s speaking facts, but even if you disagree with her, you can’t deny the impact she’s had on the league. Give credit where it’s due.”

The increase in popularity has been a double-edged sword for the Fever star as many have called her out over her stance on the potential participation of transgender athletes in the WNBA.

Despite that, Cunningham refuses to back off from her stance. Even when some want the Fever to cut ties with her due to her rather outspoken personality.
