Orlando Pirates treble winner announces retirement at 36

Former Orlando Pirates striker Bongani Ndulula has announced his retirement from football at the age of 36.
The former forward, affectionately known as ‘Drogba’, earned 10 caps for Bafana Bafana between 2014 and 2015 and represented South Africa at the Africa Cup of Nations.

However, Ndulula is best remembered for his time at Orlando Pirates, where he was part of the squad that secured a historic treble in 2011.
After leaving the Buccaneers in 2013, Ndulula went on to play for AmaZulu before later having spells with Kaizer Chiefs and Chippa United.
Speaking to KickOff, the former Pirates striker confirmed that he has decided to call time on his playing career.
“I am done with football. I am now focused on doing other things. I have been playing some social tournaments to keep myself busy. But now I no longer have the energy to continue playing football,” Ndulula said.
“I enjoyed my time playing football. Besides playing for the two big clubs in South Africa, one of my greatest achievements was representing my country during the AFCON tournament.

“Wearing the Bafana Bafana jersey is something that I will cherish for the rest of my life,” he added.
Since stepping away from professional football, Ndulula has remained active by featuring in social tournaments.
The former striker became a popular figure among Orlando Pirates supporters during the club’s memorable 2011 treble-winning campaign.
He famously scored a late winner against Santos in the final stages of a league encounter, a moment that further endeared him to the Buccaneers faithful.
Ndulula was part of the Pirates squad that made history by becoming the first South African club to win the domestic treble.
