Augsburg to take Bayern Munich’s Arijon Ibrahimovic on loan with €8m purchase option

Augsburg are closing in on the signing of Bayern Munich attacker Arijon Ibrahimović after reaching an agreement with the German champions over a season-long loan containing an €8m purchase option. The 20-year-old is expected to undergo his medical on Monday before completing the move. Augsburg will reportedly pay Bayern a €500,000 loan fee and retain the option to purchase Ibrahimović permanently next summer.

Bayern will not possess a buy-back option should Augsburg activate the clause, although the record champions have reportedly secured a percentage of any future resale. The agreement represents a notable late-window change of direction for Ibrahimović. Bayern extended the academy product’s contract through 2028 earlier this summer and initially planned to retain him as an attacking alternative to Luis Díaz.

He nevertheless remained on the bench for the entirety of Bayern’s Franz Beckenbauer Supercup victory over Borussia Dortmund and their 5-1 Bundesliga-opening win over VfB Stuttgart. FCB Board Member for Sport Max Eberl subsequently acknowledged that regular competitive minutes could prove increasingly difficult to obtain.
Augsburg secure €8m purchase option
Augsburg have now taken advantage of Bayern’s willingness to sanction another departure. The Fuggerstädter had already explored a move for Ibrahimović last year and resumed their interest after the door reopened during the closing stages of the current window. Werder Bremen and Serie A side Atalanta were also reportedly interested, but Augsburg ultimately won the race.
The €8m purchase option represents a significant commitment to Ibrahimović’s long-term potential. Were Augsburg to activate it next summer, only two players in club history would have commanded larger transfer fees. Ibrahimović returns to another Bundesliga environment after spending last season on loan at Heidenheim. His performances there helped increase his market value and earned him another opportunity to establish himself within Bayern’s first-team squad this summer.
Augsburg should offer a clearer route to regular football. The versatile attacker can operate on the left wing or centrally and will also reunite with Germany U21 teammates Mert Kömür and Anton Kade under Manuel Baum.
Augsburg’s transfer business may not yet be finished either. Manchester City defender Juma Bah is already in Bavaria as the clubs work to finalize another loan agreement, while departures involving Kristijan Jakić and Alexis Claude-Maurice remain possible.
