Toronto cops arrest three in Mississauga as SIU probes fatal shooting

Toronto Police arrested three people in Mississauga following a fatal shooting involving an officer this past Wednesday now being investigated by the province’s police watchdog.

At about 5:50 p.m., police received a call about a person with a gun in the area of The Esplanade and Lower Jarvis St. Cops from 51 Division were on scene to investigate and were able to find a suspect and their vehicle, a Mercedes.
According to police, plainclothes officers then tracked the vehicle from Toronto to Mississauga.
The vehicle was found in the area of The Collegeway and Winston Churchill Blvd., cops said, and officers allegedly attempted to stop the vehicle.
Police allege the suspect tried to flee the scene and struck a plainclothes officer in the process. One plainclothes officer allegedly fired at the vehicle, striking and killing the 19-year-old driver.
The incident is now being investigated by the Special Investigations Unit .
Car occupants arrested, charged
The three remaining occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody, police said.
Naquon Laidley, 23, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with failing to comply with probation, use/handle/store ammunition carelessly, and two counts each of possessing a restricted or prohibited firearm without holding a licence and registration certificate, occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm, use/handle/store firearm carelessly, possessing a loaded regulated firearm, possessing a weapon dangerous to public safety, and possessing a prohibited/restricted weapon or prohibited device knowing no authority.
Kahiem Bailey-Whitfield, 19, of Mississauga, was arrested and charged with two counts each of possessing a restricted or prohibited firearm without holding a licence and registration certificate, occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm, use/handle/store firearm carelessly, possessing a loaded regulated firearm, possessing a weapon dangerous to public safety, and possessing a prohibited/restricted weapon or prohibited device knowing no authority.
Laidley and Bailey-Whitfield were scheduled to appear at Toronto Regional Bail Centre this past Thursday.
A 17-year-old girl was arrested and charged with three counts of failing to comply with probation, use/handle/store firearm carelessly, and two counts each of possessing a restricted or prohibited firearm without holding a licence and registration certificate, occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm, possessing a loaded regulated firearm, possessing a weapon dangerous to public safety, and possessing prohibited/restricted weapon or prohibited device knowing no authority.
The teen was scheduled to appear at Ontario Court of Justice this past Thursday.
