The Election Commission on Friday extended the enumeration deadline for the special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Karnataka by nine days to August 17. Earlier, the deadline was August 8.
This is the second extension in the state. On July 15, the poll panel had extended the enumeration deadline to August 8 from July 29.
The second extension came after citizens’ rights groups demanded more time, saying that lakhs of persons risked exclusion from the draft rolls, the Deccan Herald reported.
Data shared by the Election Commission showed that only 80.1% of the enumeration forms had been digitised in the state as of Friday. The digitisation rate was lowest in the northern, central and southern areas of the Bengaluru municipal corporation, where it ranged from 49% to 53%.
The digitisation rate was 55.8% in Bengaluru Urban district.
Udupi district recorded the highest rate of form digitisation, at nearly 94%.
Under the revised timeline, the draft voter list in the state will be published on August 24 instead of August 17.
The claims and objections by persons who are removed from the draft list can be filed between August 24 and September 23. The claims will be heard until October 22 before the final electoral roll is published by October 27.
