Steelers Failures Played Impact on Team Selecting Drew Allar

Until things are played out over the next year or so, there are going to be questions about what the Pittsburgh Steelers decided to do in the 2025 and 2026 NFL Drafts.

The Steelers brought in Will Howard and Drew Allar, selecting both Big Ten stars.
While the plan has always been to have a veteran signal-caller under center for the past two years, there have been worries that Aaron Rodgers doesn't plan to return. If that doesn't end up being the case, a lot of these questions will probably be quieted down, as one of those two guys should get a chance to at least start some games.
However, if it does happen, we really have no idea what could play out, which has led to some worrying about what the future looks like.
A Steelers reporter had some great thoughts about it, showing that the past for this organization probably played some part in the decision to take another quarterback in the third round this year in Allar.
“Well, it's at least giving them 3 shots at it, right? I do agree, it's not a traditional plan we've seen play out too often. But I think it's also important to remember the original succession plan was Pickett, and then Wilson to prep the way for a rookie QB, then for Rodgers to do that same thing.
“Now, Rodgers most likely won't be around if they select a rookie QB next year. I do think it could get a bit crowded and jumbled if 3 young QBs are competing at the same time. But there's part of me that wants to cover that, because those will be some exciting training camp practices,” Christopher Carter of the Post-Gazette wrote.
The Steelers had been fortunate for a very long time to have elite quarterback play with Ben Roethlisberger, but have somewhat struggled to find the guy since.
Unfortunately, they've had some bad moments, and that's putting it lightly. However, as the organization has also found out, there's no guarantee in drafting a quarterback, so they had to be safe and do what they felt was right at this moment.
