On Monday, MLB announced its Players of the Week for each of the leagues, and the Phillies’ own Crisopher Sanchez took home the honors for the National League.

This award comes after Sanchez had two simple phenomenal outings, one coming against the Athletics and the other against the Colorado Rockies.

Sanchez tossed 8.0 scoreless innings against the Athletics and the 7.0 shutout innings against the Rockies in a series-clinching victory.

In these two stats alone, Sanchez threw 15.0 innings, allowed zero earned runs, walked one batter, and struck out a staggering 17 hitters. Those numbers come out to a 0.67 WHIP and a .170 opponent batting average.

It truly doesn’t get much better than that.

“Zeros. Besides that, kind of typical [Sanchez]. He’s been on a roll,” said skipper Don Mattingly after Sunday’s start.

“I know it's been a while since he's given up a run. His mix is just tough… He's a handful. I've definitely seen that from the other side. This guy's, he's really good.”

Sanchez hit a stretch in the middle of April where he didn’t look his sharpest on the mound. He wasn’t necessarily giving up a ton of runs, but was getting too deep into counts, which caused some of his outings to be cut shorter than he or the Phillies would have liked.

Obviously, after these last two outings, Sanchez is back on track and looking much more like the Cy Young candidate and ace he was for the Phillies just a year ago, who earned him a fresh contract extension before the season began.

In Sanchez’s nine starts so far in 2026, he owns a 2.11 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with a chase-rate of 37.7 percent (96th percentile), strikeout rate of 28.4 percent (85th percentile), and a walk-rate of 5.9 percent (85th percentile).

Even though the Phillies have a star-studded lineup that is playing at a high-level right now, the pitching is the backbone of the roster and will likely be the

With Sanchez throwing the ball just as well as any other pitcher in baseball right now, the Phillies should feel cautiously optimistic about where the team currently stands.
