FSU softball sweeps Syracuse to open ACC play

The No. 11 Florida State Seminoles softball team beat the Syracuse Orange 11-7 on Sunday at JoAnne Graf Field in Tallahassee, Florida, completing the series sweep. FSU improved to 25-4 overall and 3-0 in ACC play with the win, their 14 in a row.
FSU held on to earn the win at the end. They took a 7-0 lead, but Syracuse scored six runs in the fourth to make it a one-run game. Bella Dimitrijevic had not allowed a hit prior to the inning, but was pulled after three singles and a walk drove in one run and loaded the bases with two outs.

Marlee Gaskell relieved her and walked the first batter she faced before allowing a grand slam, making it a 7-6 game. She got the next batter to end the inning. Jazzy Francik pitched the final three innings.
FSU's offense got back to work in the fifth and provided some breathing room. Anna Hinde started it with a single before she was replaced by Madi Frey as a pinch-runner. She got to third on an error, allowing Makenna Sturgis to reach. Another error allowed Frey to score and Marin Heller to reach on what should have been a pop-up.
Isa Torres walked to load the bases, and Jaysoni Beachum did the rest, clearing the bases with a two-out double, giving FSU an 11-6 lead. Beachum finished the game with five RBI.
The Seminoles once again took the lead in the first inning, scoring six runs to take control of the game. Jaysoni Beachum started the scoring with a two-run homer before Ashtyn Danley hit a grand slam, all before Syracuse recorded an out.
Shelby MzKenzie made it a 7-0 game with a solo home run of her own in the fourth inning.
Syracuse did not get its first hit until the top of the fourth inning, getting a one-out single off of Dimitrijevic. A walk gave them their first rally, before back-to-back singles made it a 7-1 game and loaded the bases. Marlee Gaskell replaced her after the final hit,
The Seminoles will return to action on Wednesday when they host the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The game is set to start at 6 p.m. ET and will be on the ACC Network. Texas Tech beat FSU 3-2 earlier this season and has won the last three meetings.
