· Yahoo Sports

The first week of free agency has been a whirlwind for the Pittsburgh Steelers but under new head coach Mike McCarthy the team is making some big moves and trying to build a contender in 20206. If the Steelers are finally going to get that elusive playoff win, it's going to take everyone.

Here are three Steelers who could be playing for the jobs in 2026.

RB Kaleb Johnson

We could have never guessed from his college film that running Kaleb Johnson would be unable to crack the depth chart in 2025. Johnson was the Steelers third-round pick in 2025 out of Iowa but only mustered 51 snaps and finished with 69 rushing yards on just 28 carries. The Steelers still have Jaylen Warren and added Rico Dowdle in free agency, which pushes Johnson to the back of the depth chart before the season even starts.

DT Keeanu Benton

Benton is heading into the final year of his rookie contract and his career has been up and down to say the least. Benton started all 17 games at nose tackle in 2025 but finished with only a 58.6 grade from Pro Football Focus. Benton has been steady as an interior pass rusher but fallen short as a run defender and needs to show plenty of growth there to get a new contract with the Steelers.

OT Broderick Jones

It is truly unfortunate that Jones suffered a neck injury because he was having his best season as a pro in 2025. Now, there are questions whether or not Jones will be healthy to start the season and if he ends up losing his starting spot, an extension might not happen for him as well, despite it just being due to injury.
