Bayern Munich is down a goal and a man in its Bundesliga test this week on the road at Bayer Leverkusen. Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson started his second straight game ahead of the injured Harry Kane, but was sent off with a straight red after a rash challenge late in the first half.

Leverkusen had already shown their goal threat in transition, and Jackson went in hard on B04 winger Martin Terrier in a central position near the center circle. The Bayern man’s tackling technique could evidently use some work, as he lunged in from the side only to plant the sole of his boot firmly on his opponent’s winger — and well after Terrier had released the ball.

Initially it was only a foul but it took only a brief VAR review for the red card to come out — in only the 42nd minute, with the score already 1-0 to Leverkusen following Aleix García’s sixth-minute stirke. Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany has entered the second half without any changes despite the sending off.

Die Werkself, having shown well against Arsenal in the Champions League Round of 16 first leg earlier in the week, will be rightly pleased with their first-half advantage over the German Rekordmeister. This time, they might get the win.
