A top-two team has fallen to an unranked opponent for the fourth consecutive week, and on Saturday, it was Ohio State football’s turn to suffer an unexpected defeat. Ryan Day’s team was beaten by USC in its first game without starting quarterback Julian Sayin, and Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy wasted no time expressing his satisfaction with the Buckeyes’ disappointing performance.

After Ohio State’s loss, Portnoy took to X to openly criticize Day and his team for failing to deliver in crucial matchups.

“It makes me sick to my stomach watching USC bully and bruise a once proud Ohio State team,” Portnoy wrote. “Ryan Day once again totally lost when the pressure is on. YOU HATE TO SEE IT! One day Ohio State fans will thank me for bringing Ryan Day’s big game ineptitude to justice.”

True freshman quarterback Luke Fahey’s efforts were not enough to prevent Ohio State from suffering a 30-18 loss against USC, even as Jeremiah Smith delivered another record-breaking performance.

However, the result was particularly unexpected considering USC’s recent struggles. Lincoln Riley’s team appeared to be in serious trouble after suffering a disappointing blowout loss to Wisconsin the previous week.

Portnoy extended his criticism in the video shared with the post, questioning both USC’s overall quality and Riley’s coaching ability. Despite

“I’m gonna tell you, this USC team, they’re not very good,” he said. “Lincoln Riley, soft as a marshmallow. They don’t have a top-five win since he’s been there, and they just steamroll you guys. They embarrass you guys.”

Despite securing the victory, USC was actually outgained by Ohio State in the game. The Buckeyes finished with 464 total yards, including 260 passing yards and 204 rushing yards, compared to USC’s 338 total yards, with 222 coming through the air and 116 on the ground.

Ohio State also recorded 25 first downs, significantly more than USC’s 15. However, the Trojans made their scoring opportunities count, particularly in the red zone, while their defense prevented the Buckeyes from finding the end zone until the final minutes of the fourth quarter.
