Pitt football has endured a rough stretch filled with injuries and a quarterback shuffle, but wide receiver Censere Lee helped the Panthers get back on track with one of the best catches of the college football weekend in a dominant win over Georgia Tech on Saturday night.
Lee hauled in a spectacular one-handed catch for a 44-yard gain on a deep throw from quarterback Holden Geriner, reeling it in despite being interfered with by a Georgia Tech defender. The grab moved the Panthers into the Yellow Jackets’ red zone and quickly went viral, with ESPN sharing the clip on X.

Pitt did not capitalize on that particular drive, turning the ball over in the end zone. But the Panthers had little trouble the rest of the way, cruising to a 34-11 victory at Acrisure Stadium.
Lee finished with three catches for 56 yards, and his 44-yarder was Pitt’s longest play from scrimmage of the night. The play was a welcome sight for the redshirt senior, who has battled injuries since transferring from Western Carolina in 2024.
Damon Ferguson carried the load on the ground for Pitt, rushing 31 times for 185 yards and two touchdowns. LaVell Wright added a 1-yard scoring run, while Geriner found Blue Hicks for a 30-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to make it 27-3. Pitt’s passing attack finished 13-of-32 for 180 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
The Panthers’ defense was just as impressive. Pitt racked up five sacks and eight tackles for loss, holding Georgia Tech to 238 total yards. The Yellow Jackets went just 3-of-18 on third down and fumbled five times, losing two. Pitt outgained Georgia Tech 461-238 and held the ball for more than 34 minutes.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Pitt, which had dropped consecutive games to North Carolina, Boston College and Miami. The Panthers improved to 6-3 and are now bowl eligible, while Georgia Tech fell to 2-6.
Pitt will have a week off before hosting Florida State on Friday, Nov. 13. If Lee keeps making plays like this one, the Panthers’ passing game could get a much-needed spark down the stretch.
