Elections are about more than just who wins or loses: They’re a contest of ideas. This will be what animates The Atlantic’s livestream as the results come in––the ideas that are resonating with Americans, and the future direction for both major parties, institutions, and democracy. Radio Atlantic co-hosts Hanna Rosin and Adam Harris will anchor the live show, and will be joined by staff writers David Frum and Tom Nichols to discuss the future of the Republican Party, Tyler Austin Harper and Mark Leibovich on the state of the Democrats, and Anne Applebaum on what the night’s results mean for American democracy.

The livestream is part of The Atlantic’s ongoing and extensive midterm and politics coverage, which has taken its writers, events, and podcasts around the country to cover key races, issues, candidates, and policy implications. Coverage will publish across the site and on The Atlantic’s audio network.

Also timed to the midterms, Anne Applebaum returns with a fourth season of the Autocracy in America podcast, launching November 10. This season will examine whether we can repair the American institutions President Trump is breaking. Anne will speak with leaders about their plans to work with the administration, to restore international relationships, and to fix the damage done to our economy, as well as what it could look like to retrain and restrain ICE, rescue our cultural institutions, and keep our elections safe.
