“Cooper Flagg For MVP Don’t Get It Twisted” – Mavericks Fans On Cloud Nine After ROY’s Surgical Performance Leads to Blowout Win Over Thunder
· Yahoo Sports
Cooper Flagg’s stellar start this season continued on Wednesday as he led the Dallas Mavericks to a 120-96 win over one of the league’s best defensive units, the OKC Thunder.
Flagg torched the 2025 NBA champions with a surgical offensive performance, scoring 26 points and dishing eight assists without a turnover. Flagg also grabbed five rebounds. The box score didn’t show it, but the reigning Rookie of the Year also had a solid defensive shift.

After Flagg’s 26-8 game against the Thunder, his season averages improved to 25.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 6.8 assists, 2.8 steals and 1.3 blocks per game in four appearances.
The numbers could have been even better had he not left Friday’s 121-105 win over the Indiana Pacers with a contact injury. In that game, Flagg had 14 points, five rebounds, six assists and three steals in just 17 minutes.
As Flagg looks better with each game, Mavericks fans rallied behind him as not just an All-Star and All-NBA candidate, but also an MVP candidate.

Why Cooper Flagg can actually be in the conversation for MVP
Whether Cooper Flagg wins MVP or not is a long shot. He’s only 19, and no one in history has achieved this milestone at that age. However, Flagg can be in that conversation. Granted, a four-game sample size is small to make such predictions, but Flagg has looked like one of the most NBA-ready prospects in recent memory.
The Mavericks also developed him well in his rookie year. Former coach Jason Kidd deserves credit, as he put Flagg in uncomfortable positions and polished a few areas of his game, especially his playmaking skills as a point guard.
Flagg has also gotten stronger, improving his play-finishing and ability to get to his spots. Even some of the league’s top defenders, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Aaron Nesmith and Amen Thompson, couldn’t slow him down.
Flagg’s two-way versatility as a 6-foot-10 forward is rare, so he’s likely to maintain his current averages the rest of the year. If that also translates into a potential top-four finish, Flagg will have a case as an MVP candidate, as the Mavericks aren’t widely projected to make the playoffs.
In terms of competition, voters might be fatigued to nominate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for MVP for a third straight year. Luka Doncic might have the best case to win his first. Nikola Jokic’s Nuggets are off to a slow start, and he’s not been at his best either. Giannis Antetokounmpo was another MVP favorite, but after a 1-4 start, it seems Miami has a lot to figure out chemistry-wise.
