While teams like the Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays are in a great position to make the World Series, they share some other similarities.

That includes moving on from players when it isn't always popular to do so.

The Brewers and Rays have moved on from guys just about a year before they hit free agency. The Brewers have done that far more than the Rays, but there's hope Tampa will do the same for some of its current talent, which could help the New York Mets and other teams around the league.

One player the Mets would love to land is Drew Rasmussen. Rasmussen is the ace of that Rays staff and has thrown at a ridiculously high level throughout the postseason and the campaign, earning back-to-back All-Star nods after doing so for the first time in his career in 2025.

“There hasn't been much buzz yet regarding which players other teams might make available this offseason, but Tampa Bay Rays ace Drew Rasmussen ($20 million team option for 2027 in his last year before free agency) and some of the Mariners' starting pitchers (given their glut of rotation options) could be available,” Danny Abriano wrote.

Interestingly, Rasmussen played for the Brewers in 2020 and 2021 before going to Tampa Bay.

Since joining the Rays, you could argue he's been the most underrated pitcher in baseball, posting a 2.76 ERA over the past five seasons.

The problem for the Mets is that this won't come cheap in a trade, and he'll be expensive the year after.

However, this is the exact type of guy who would fit well in New York, so it's safe to say he could be a need if he becomes available.
