INITIAL STORY

SOUTH BEND — Notre Dame football defensive tackle Francis Brewu visited the medical tent early in the second quarter of Saturday’s game against Stanford.

Brewu walked off under the observation of Irish medical staff, and coach Marcus Freeman ran out to check on him as well.

The Pittsburgh transfer said something to position coach Charlie Partridge in passing but continued on to the home sideline and further medical evaluation.

The 6-foot-1, 285-pound Brewu had one tackle, and the Irish led 20-0 at the time of his exit with 14:07 left in the first half.

Tionne Gray and Elijah Hughes lined up at the two defensive tackle spots on the next defensive series for Notre Dame.
