NFL Fines Steelers Wide Receiver DK Metcalf

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf was fined for taunting against the Cleveland Browns in the Steelers’ 27-24 Week 4 Thursday Night Football loss.

Metcalf was fined $11,941 for taunting by the NFL. He was also flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct on the play, when he tossed the ball at two Cleveland defenders after making a catch for 7 yards in the first quarter of Thursday’s game.

The penalty on slowed what became a 17-play, 78-yard touchdown drive for the Steelers. Metcalf was not penalized again in the game. It was the fifth flag thrown on him this season, with four of those penalties accepting, costing his team 42 yards. 

According to NFLPenalties.com, Metcalf has cost his team the seventh-most penalty yardage this season, and the second-most among offensive players. He also has been flagged twice for holding and twice for offensive pass interference. His accepted holding penalty wiped out an 87-yard Jaylen Warren run, in addition to the seven penalty yards.

Metcalf is the third Steelers player to be fined this season. Linebacker Payton Wilson was fined for a fourth-quarter facemask penalty in Week 2’s 20-3 loss to the New England Patriots. Linebacker Cole Holcomb was fined for a blindside block in the opening kickoff against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 3.

The Steelers have been one of the most-fined teams in the league in each of the last three seasons.

The Steelers were the second-most fined NFL team in 2025, racking up $749,747 in fines, over 18 total infractions according to date from The Action Network. Only the Washington Commanders were fined more.

They were the third-most fined team in the NFL during the 2024 season, and were the most-fined team in the NFL in 2023, with fines totaling $478,091.
