The Cleveland Guardians will host the Chicago White Sox for Game 5 of the American League Division Series on Saturday at Progressive Field. It has been a back-and-forth series between the Guardians and White Sox, with Chicago winning the first two games before Cleveland answered with two victories. Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Rays swept their ALDS matchup with the New York Yankees earlier in the week. MLB insider Bob Nightengale believes the Rays are the real winners of the White Sox-Guardians ALDS given the current situation.

“The winner of the White Sox-Guardians deciding Game 5 tonight? The Tampa Bay Rays,” Nightengale wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “They are tanned, rested and relaxed, last playing on Wednesday. They have Drew Rasmussen, Freddy Peralta and Nick Martinez all lined up with home-field advantage beginning Monday with Game 1.”

The Rays received a break since they defeated the Yankees to clinch a series win on Wednesday. As Nightengale mentioned, they will have plenty of rest. The winner of the White Sox and Guardians series will only have one off-day before beginning the ALCS on Monday.

One could look at the scenario another way, though. The Rays received a break during the AL Wild Card Series as well since they earned a bye. Tampa Bay has only played three games since the regular season ended in late September. The lack of game-action could work against them, but the rest is surely going to help.

Game 5 of the White Sox and Guardians series is scheduled for 8 PM ET on Saturday night in Cleveland.
