Vanderbilt running back Sedrick Alexander is giving his touchdowns extra meaning this season and turning each trip to the end zone into a donation for ALS research.
Alexander recently announced that he will donate $280 to The ALS Association for every touchdown he scores during the 2026 season, honoring former Tennessee Titans star Chris Johnson after the NFL legend revealed his ALS diagnosis earlier this summer.
There is a personal significance behind the $280 figure. Alexander wears No. 28 for Vanderbilt, the same number Johnson made famous during his record-setting career with the Titans. The two running backs also share a connection to Nashville, with Alexander playing his college football just miles from where Johnson became one of the city’s biggest sports stars.

Alexander recently participated in the revived ALS Ice Bucket Challenge alongside local attorney Blair Durham at FirstBank Stadium.
Durham also pledged to match Alexander’s $280 donation for every touchdown he scores.
“As a running back, I’ve always looked up to him because he’s one of the best to ever play the position,” Alexander told Joey Dwyer of Vandy on SI. “Connecting the donation to touchdowns felt personal to me because football has given me a platform to do something positive.”

Vanderbilt head coach Clark Lea praised Alexander for using his platform to support the Nashville community.
“This is a first-class guy,” Lea said. “He’s a great player, but he’s an even better person.”
Alexander has already scored three touchdowns during Vanderbilt’s unbeaten start to the season. With every additional score now carrying a $280 donation, his production will continue supporting the cause.
