Lakeland, Lake Wales football win big; Polk Week 6 Players of the Game

The No. 13 team in Florida and the No. 53 squad in the nation won its third game in a row thanks to a 49-14 win Friday at home over Auburndale.

And it was all about the rushing attack for the Dreadnaughts thanks to 4-yard score from Xavion Mitchell, a 5-yard touchdown from Ahnarri Cooper, a 25-yard scampering score from Steward Butler and a 1-yard score from Matwoin Bryant.
Rashard Kelley and Came Fuse caught touchdown passes.
Auburndale's scores were a 70-yard kick return touchdown from Adonis Cuyler and a Hayden Leade rushing touchdown.
Lakeland (5-1) will take on a 1-4 SFA Rams team Friday at home. And Auburndale (3-2) will play Haines City Friday at home.
Lake Wales 66, Brandon 0
Lake Wales continued its dominance by winning a fifth in a row thanks to a 66-0 blowout over Brandon Friday at home.
The Highlanders could easily be 6-0 due to a single point deficit in its first game of the year, but the local powerhouse did the next best thing thanks to Lake Wales' quarterback Kingston Loydd's five touchdown passes — two to Daniel James as well as touchdown passes to Ja'Quez Robinson, Tycen Hendrix and Keneilius Purdy, who scored three touchdowns total in the game.
Punt returner Kurt Payne went all the way to the house for a score.
Defensively, Jerzey Lighten had a big sack in the game, Raeshaun Pugh registered a tackle for loss and Alberto Dewberyy picked up a fumble.
No. 18 Lake Wales (5-1) will have a bye week and next play Oct. 8 at Jones High School (3-1), a team that's ranked No. 23 in Florida.
Lake Gibson 23, Osceola 13
The Braves notched over .500 thanks to three touchdown passes from quarterback Caleb McFarland.
Running back Raymond Diaz rushed for a touchdown. Stephon Bell also scored another touchdown, which is development he's accomplished every game this season.
The Braves (3-2) will gear up for Kathleen (0-5) next Friday at home.
Poinciana 21, Winter Haven 20
The Blue Devils fell just a bit short Friday at home despite trying their best to make a furious comeback.
Down 14-0, Winter Haven quarterback Kamari Threatt kept the ball on a keeper and scampered in for a 5-yard touchdown to cut the Poinciana lead to seven with 20 seconds left in the second quarter.
Tying the game was Winter Haven running back Tyberius O'Neil, who outran the defenders for a 61-yard touchdown with 11 minutes to go in the third quarter.
Poinciana went on to score again. But then Witner Haven matriculated down the field before runner Jakari Faniel ran it in for a 5-yard touchdown with three minutes to go in the fourth, which eventually led to the final score.
The Blue Devils (3-2) will head to Georgia — a three-hour-and-45-minute drive ― and play an undefeated, No. 17 Valdosta team in that state on Friday.
George Jenkins 13, Davenport 12
The Eagles gutted out a win Friday night on the road to move to three games over .500.
Doing their best to stifle a win, Davenport missed the extra point with just three minutes to go which led to George Jenkins running out the clock. With the win, the Eagles are still alive for the district title, and it guaranteed the local team a playoff spot.
Running back Malik Raymond scored the team's only touchdown to keep George Jenkins alive and kicking for that district championship.
Kicker Campbell Mank executed two-of-three field goals.
Raymond racked up 130 yards and a touchdown, and quarterback Brayden Padgett managed 112 total yards.
Dylan King was a menace with 10 tackles on defense, while Kam Jones and Jonathan Wilson had a sack respectively and William Rehwaldt put up six tackles.
George Jenkins (4-1) will take on Lake Region (2-2) Monday on the road.
St. Edwards 29, All Saints 0
In a game in which All Saints was down their starting running back/defensive back as well as their offensive lineman/linebacker, the Saints fell short due to turnovers.
The local squad had two red zone interceptions and racked up too many penalties.
Next up for All Saints (2-4) will be Marco Island on the road.

This victory meant Victory Christian is 2-0 in the district thanks to quarterback Jaxon Smith's three touchdown passes.
Catching the rock for scores were Don'Mari Earby and Andrew Morrison.
Other highlights included a 50-yard touchdown run from Nick Felton and a 20-yarder by Israel Beard.
Defensively, Mykel Kinchen tallied three pass breakups, while Reese Nunez forced a fumble which was recovered by Kinchen. Jezzion Young and Levi Litton both had interceptions.
Victory Christian (4-2) will take on Lake Region Friday at home.
