Canadiens Make First Cuts, Trim Camp Roster By 12 Players

The Montreal Canadiens have made their first round of cuts, reducing their training camp roster by 12 players on Saturday afternoon prior to their split-game match ups versus the Ottawa Senators.
For the most part, the players who were cut will play an important role in the Laval Rocket’s season, with most of the legitimate NHL talent still at the team’s main training camp.

One of the driving forces behind the lack of cuts has been the condensed preseason schedule, which has just featured five games, but included a pair of split-game match-ups, forcing the Habs to keep at least 46 players at camp for the time being.
The regular season is set to begin in just a few days, on Tuesday, September 29, therefore we should expect another round of cuts in the very near future, possibly as soon as the split games versus the Senators conclude on Saturday night.
Players Cut From Canadiens Camp – Heading To Laval
Vincent Arseneau, Jacob Dion, Aiden Dubinsky, Braden Hache, Hunter Jones, Francesco Lapenna, Aleksandr Legkov, Kevin Mandolese, Kale McCallum, Israel Maniscum, Josh Nadeau, and Xavier Simoneau.
Seeing as the Rocket’s training camp is about to begin in earnest, these cuts come as no surprise. It’s worth noting that Legkov and Nadeau, in particular, enjoyed great camps with the Canadiens, which should improve their standing within the Rocket’s lineup, especially since they were being coached by Daniel Jacob for the rookie portion of the training camp.
Jacob is set to replace Pascal Vincent as the head coach of the Rocket, and will look to maintain their regular season success, while improving their results in the playoffs. Even though Laval has been one of the best teams in the league in the last few seasons, they’re yet to dominate in the playoffs, including an series loss versus the Toronto Marlies in 2025-26, a team that finished well below Laval in the regular-season standings.
