Among many miscues, Manchester United’s biggest mistake was passing on Harry Kane

Louis Saha believes Manchester United made a significant mistake by failing to sign Harry Kane in 2023, while Bayern Munich ended up getting a bargain for a player who has continued to produce at an elite level.

Saha, a former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur striker who also represented France, knows both clubs well. He joined Manchester United from Fulham in 2004, won multiple major trophies at Old Trafford, and later spent time with Tottenham.
Speaking about Kane, Saha argued that United should have been willing to pay whatever was necessary to bring the England striker to Old Trafford.
“Manchester United would have lifted many more trophies if they had signed Harry Kane two years ago. I think he was a bargain at £100 million for Bayern Munich. Whatever the price would have been for United to sign him, it would have been worth it. It was a massive mistake letting him join Bayern. An insane decision by United,” Saha told Betano. “When I was at Tottenham Hotspur, I did not see the potential of Harry Kane. I didn’t see it. Now look at him and how he was developed. He has scored 72 goals, maybe 85 when you look at goals and assists together. These are mad numbers. Don’t tell me Manchester United wouldn’t be winning the Premier League with him in their team. Maybe even the Champions League.”
United ultimately ended up with then-Atalanta striker Rasmus Højlund for €79 million, which did not work out. Højlund is now back in Italy with Napoli. Kane, though, has continued to deliver prolific numbers in Munich.
