The Jacksonville Jaguars suffered a frustrating loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 2 of the 2026 season. The team lost 20–13 on Sunday, but the defeat itself was not the only concern surrounding the Jaguars, the franchise’s handling of young star Travis Hunter, and the limited number of snaps he received also raised questions.

Emmanuel Acho Rips Jaguars for Travis Hunter Usage

During a recent episode of “Speakeasy,” former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho strongly criticized Jacksonville for limiting Hunter’s involvement and said:

“Get a refund if this is how you’re going to use Travis Hunter. Return him if this is how you’re going to use Travis Hunter. Send him back to Colorado if this is how you’re going to use Travis Hunter. I was rewatching the game. He didn’t even play the second series on defense. It’s not as though they were like, ‘You know what? Now that he’s gassed, let’s get him out of the game.’ He did not play the second series against an AFC opponent that went to a championship game last year.”

He also added:

“And you pulled him to preserve him for what? You traded two firsts for him. There is no preservation. He’s young. He’s got fresh legs. Now is the time to get as much juice out of the squeeze of Travis Hunter as possible, and you don’t have him on the field on defense in the second series. He’s the highest-graded cornerback by a long shot on that team and probably the most talented player on that team, and he’s not even playing up to 70 percent of the snaps.

“The dude is probably the second-best defensive player on that field, second only to Patrick Surtain. He’s the second-best defensive player in the whole stadium, and he only plays 60 percent of the snaps. What the Jags are doing is utterly negligent. You don’t deserve to win when you make idiotic decisions like this.”

Travis Hunter was known for his remarkable versatility during his time at Colorado. Fans and analysts are now questioning whether Jacksonville is using him to his full potential.

During the Week 2 loss, Hunter was on the field for 37 of Jacksonville’s 62 defensive snaps, representing 59.7 percent of the team’s defensive workload. He also participated in only six offensive snaps, or 10 percent of the Jaguars’ offensive plays, along with one special-teams snap.

The criticism surrounding Hunter’s role is understandable considering the enormous investment Jacksonville made to acquire him. The Jaguars traded up to select him with the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, creating expectations that he would become a central part of their plans.

His ability to contribute at both cornerback and wide receiver made him one of football’s most unusual prospects. However, that value cannot be fully realized while he remains on the sideline for significant stretches. Jacksonville must now establish a clearer role for Hunter and give him enough opportunities to influence games consistently and meaningfully this season.
