Coen discusses key area where Jaguars faltered in Week 2 loss v. Broncos

It was a quiet day for the Jacksonville Jaguars' pass rush in the team's Week 2 matchup against the Denver Broncos.
According to PFF, the Jaguars totaled just 11 pressures on the day. No Jaguars player had more than two quarterback pressures and, as a team, Jacksonville didn't record a single sack.

Broncos' quarterback Bo Nix was under pressure on just 31.3% of his dropbacks, which ranks 23rd out of 31 eligible quarterbacks with the Monday Night Football game still to take place.
Even when the Jaguars blitzed, the Broncos seemed to often have the answers.
Denver does have a stout offensive line unit, but as head coach Liam Coen said afterward, the Jaguars are going to have to find a way to create pressure against good teams.
"That [Denver] is a damn good offensive line," Coen said afterward, via Jaguars.com. "I don't want to take too much away from them, but if we're going to beat a team like that, then we're going to have to create some pressure. They caught us in a couple blitzes that they identified pre-snap when we were going to blitz and bring more. They ended up flipping the protections to pick some of that stuff up. That's something we have to look at as well in terms of when we're bringing pressure. If they identify it, hey, can we get out of it, or whatever it is. When we do blitz, we got to get home."
With Nix having time in the pocket, he and the Denver passing game were able to generate a number of explosive plays through the air. While there was certainly good from the Jaguars' defense in this game, those positives were negated by the Broncos' big plays, which often led to points.
The pass rush depth for the Jaguars was a big question mark coming into the season, and while those doubts were quieted after Week 1, they may now be back heading into Week 3.
