Benjamin Sesko endured a frustrating start to the season as he was unable to take part in pre-season.

Season so far

Since getting injured at the start of May against Liverpool, Sesko did not play any football until coming on as a substitute against Hull City on the opening day of the season.

The Slovenian grabbed his first goal of the season on Sunday when he headed in Luke Shaw’s cross against Everton.

Sesko was named in the starting line-up for the first time this season against Sabah in the Champions League and rounded the keeper to score his side’s third of the game and his second in two matches.

Sesko on performance

The tall striker spoke to TNT Sports after the match against the Azerbaijani side.

He explained, “I think it was perfect for everyone, especially our fans. It means a lot to them, especially when they see so many goals.”

Sesko added, “I think it was great for us in general to give us more motivation for the upcoming games.”

The striker also explained that it is important for the whole team to contribute goals if they want to have a successful season.

Sesko also claimed that he was delighted to get his own goal, explaining, “I saw him [Sabah goalkeeper, Stas Pokatilov] rushing out, and it was a great opportunity to take the ball away from him to make the goal a little bit easier. Of course, I’m happy with my goal.”

Finally, the Slovenia international believes that the game will be useful to take into the huge match against Manchester City this Sunday.

When asked if the victory will give his side confidence, he retorted, “definitely. I think the confidence boost is definitely big. It’s important to recover good and focus on the derby.”

The match kicks off at 16:30 BST at Old Trafford.
