⚽BOYS SOCCER - Division I
Moses Brown 2, North Smithfield 1
Young teams learn need to learn how to perform under pressure and on Wednesday, the Moses Brown boys soccer team earned itself an education.
Alexander Holland had the Quakers looking like they were headed toward a blowout win, but a late North Smithfield goal in the first half made things interesting and the Northmen push in the second half made it look like an equalizer was coming before the MB defense held strong and held on to pull off a 2-1 win.
Moses Brown has a lot of new faces on the field coming off last season’s run to the Division I state semifinals and needed a player like Holland to step up. The senior did just that with 22:37 left, blasting a shot through traffic and into the twine for a 1-0 lead. Just over seven minutes later, he converted a penalty kick for a 2-0 edge and the result looked predictable.
Playing into a strong headwind, North Smithfield didn’t find a lot of counterattacks, but made the most of the one it drummed up as Jack Pontbriand netted a shot with 11:41 remaining in the first half and the teams went into halftime with MB up 2-1.
The Northmen had momentum to open the second half and, with the win at their backs, pushed for just about all 40 minutes. Moses Brown keeper Haven Knapp came up with one diving save that prevented a goal, but the Quakers’ defenders did a terrific job preventing anything scarier from happening.
North Smithfield earned a corner kick in the waning seconds of the game, but the try went over the mass of bodies in front of the net and was possessed by Moses Brown before the referee’s whistle signaled the end of the game.
With the win, the Quakers improve to 2-0-1 and will be back in action Saturday when they travel to play Cumberland. North Smithfield drops to 0-4 on the season and will look for its first win Monday when it returns home to host Hendricken.
Lincoln 4, Pawtucket 1
Morgan Williams scored two goals and assisted on another, Charlie Eltz had a goal and an assist and Jaxson Harris also found the back of the net once in Lincoln's victory over Pawtucket.
Lincoln goaltender Sean Carroll recorded 7 saves in the win.
No stats were supplied for Pawtucket.
Central 1, North Kingstown 0
In this hard-fought tight clash, Joshua Pinto Gomez's goal in the 25th minute – with an assist by Diland Perez Chay – proved to be the difference-maker.
In net, the Skippers' Connor Borque made three saves and the Knights' Anthony Morales Perez had five.

⚽GIRLS SOCCER - Division I
South Kingstown 1, East Providence 1
The Rebels and Townies played to a 1-1 tie at Old Mountain Field on Wednesday.
South Kingstown got on the board in the first half with a goal by Annelise Coleman, assisted by Hailey Rollins.
East Providence tied it in the second half with a goal by Ryleigh Canton.
In net, Rebel goalie Michela LoPresti had 10 saves while Townie goalie Rylie Palumbo had 10 saves as well.

🏑FIELD HOCKEY - Division I
La Salle 6, Worcester Academy 1
The Rams snapped a 1-1 tie with five unanswered goals in the second half and went on to upend host Worcester Academy. Samantha Duarte scored La Salle's first goal and then Ella Hyland exploded with the next 5 tallies.
Netminder Peyton Giroux had five saves for the Rams in the win.
Christina Stango collected 10 saves for WA in the loss, and teammate Dani Eykman scored the team's only goal.
🏑FIELD HOCKEY - Division II
Cranston 1, South Kingstown 0
Cranston captain Elizabeth Biegel scored at 12:08 in the second quarter, assisted by Ashley Budano, and that proved to be the difference in this Division II matchup.
In net, Harper Rodman made four saves for South Kingstown and Clara Morais had two for Cranston.
Lincoln 3, Lincoln School 1
Sam Iacobucci, Carly Fraize and Brooke Batista each scored goals in the Lion's victory over the Lynx. Also figuring in the win were Laura Bello and Molly Comtois, who had two and one assist, respectively. Emmalyn Araujo held down the fort in goal with 10 saves.
Lucy Camara was solid in goal for Lincoln School as she recorded 17 saves in the loss. Ariana Casey had the lone goal for LS with an assist going to Myla Waldron.

Julia McLellan paced the Panthers with 15 assists, Milani Abate had three kills and Larissa Alvarenga Pesoa had eight digs in the win (25-18, 25-21, 25-15).
For the Titans, Bella Hathaway had nine kills, Kashi Tran had two kills and four digs, 2 aces, and Mackenzie Long had 23 assists in the loss.
North Smithfield 3, West Warwick 0
Grace DeStefanis paced the Northmen with nine kills and two aces, Natasha Jenkins added 10 digs and two aces and Olivia Majeau finished with 32 assists in the win (25-16, 25-11, 25-20).
No West Warwick stats were provided.
Pawtucket 3, Pilgrim 0
For Pawtucket, Syanne Tomar recorded five kills, three aces and three blocks, and Luna Oliveira added five kills, five digs and ace in the win (25-19, 25-5, 25-13).
For the Patriots, Bria Rhilinger had four aces and six kills in the loss.
