Myles Garrett is learning to hit EVEN HARDER from Aussie rugby coach
· Yahoo Sports
Myles Garrett is already the most fearsome player in the NFL, which means that making him even more deadly just isn’t okay. Garrett is preparing for opening week in Australia against the 49ers, and is using his time to become a more technically refined hitter with the help of a renowned rugby coach.

The concept is fairly simple: Instead of having Garrett take a step and use his legs to pull him into contact, coach Billy Coffey is instructing the pass rusher to take a smaller pre-step, then explode though his hips more and push into the contact instead. This is essentially rugby 101, and when it comes to coach Coffey he has the resume to back it up.
A strength and conditioning coach for Wanderer’s Rugby Union Football Club just outside of Sydney, Coffey graduated from the prestigious Australian Institute of Sports as a strength and conditioning trainer. An award-winner for his refinement of tackling technique, he’s essentially rewriting how tackling is approached in contact sports to be more of a mechanism of lower-body explosion than using the shoulder or head, thereby trying to lessen potential risks of concussion.
How this intersects with Garrett is fascinating. Get hit by the superstar defender was already terrifying. Imagine if this actually produces even more pain for his opponents?
