As the Boston Red Sox continue to get healthier heading into October, there's certainly a sense that left-hander Garrett Crochet could return sometime in the near future.

Crochet, undoubtedly one of the best starters in Major League Baseball, finds himself in a position to return in the bullpen.
While there's no guarantee that he's going to return yet, the Red Sox's ace has said a lot of promising things about potentially getting back to the mound. However, according to the latest report, Boston still doesn't want to get its hopes up just yet.
“The 27-year-old has been on the injured list since April 26 with shoulder inflammation, a nagging injury that has wiped out almost his entire season thanks to several setbacks. Because of that, the Red Sox are trying not to get their hopes up about what adding Crochet to their bullpen mix might mean for October. Nevertheless, it’s a tantalizing thought,” Jen McCaffrey wrote.
This is a smart idea from the Red Sox in the simple sense of not getting their hopes up. The last thing the Red Sox want is to expect Crochet back only to have him not return.
With all the other talent the Red Sox have, they're not necessarily in a terrible spot to ask other guys to step up in a major way. The only reality is that Crochet is simply unhittable when he's at his best, so there's obviously a lot of hype around him possibly coming back.
There are also some other factors at play here, including him not throwing a pitch in Major League Baseball since April 26. That's a long time for a player of his caliber to come out and expect to come back as great as he usually is. I do hope and expect he will, though.
