FIFA has imposed lengthy suspensions on players from Argentina and Spain following the post-match clash that marred the 2026 FIFA World Cup final between the two teams.
Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes has received the most severe punishment, with FIFA handing him a 10-match suspension and a $90,000 fine for his involvement in the confrontation. Teammate Nahuel Molina has been banned for seven matches and fined $90,000.

Argentina's Thiago Almada has been handed a one-match suspension and a $30,000 fine, while assistant coach Roberto Ayala has received a three-match ban and a $30,000 fine.

Spain midfielder Pablo Martín Páez Gavira, popularly known as Gavi, has also been suspended for one national-team match and fined $30,000.
The sanctions follow the heated scenes that erupted after Spain’s victory over Argentina in the World Cup final. FIFA had initiated disciplinary proceedings against Paredes and Molina over alleged assaults, while Almada and Gavi were investigated for unsporting conduct.
The post-match altercation reportedly began after Paredes pushed Gavi, leading to further confrontations between players from both sides, with Molina also found to have been involved.
FIFA clarified that the suspensions apply exclusively to national-team matches, meaning the players will be unavailable for upcoming international fixtures but can continue representing their respective clubs.
