Diu Marks 80th Independence Day with Patriotic Fervour

The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour and dignity at Ghoghla Jetty, Diu, where Administrator of the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Praful Patel, unfurled the National Flag and extended his greetings to the people.
Addressing the gathering, the Administrator paid tribute to the freedom fighters and martyrs whose sacrifices laid the foundation of India’s freedom. He highlighted the country’s progress towards becoming a developed and self-reliant nation and called upon citizens to contribute to the vision of a strong and prosperous India.

The Administrator outlined key developments in Diu and the Union Territory, including improvements in transport, airport infrastructure, sanitation, healthcare and education. He said the expansion of Diu Airport would enable larger aircraft operations in the future, while the new Jethibhai Bus Stand would further strengthen public transport facilities.
Highlighting achievements in education, he said Diu has made significant progress in recent years, with improved enrolment, reduced dropout rates and modern learning facilities. He also noted the availability of higher education institutions, including medical, engineering and nursing colleges, providing students with better opportunities.
On healthcare, the Administrator said CT scan and other diagnostic facilities would soon be made available at the government hospital, along with mammography services for women. He also highlighted the completion of sewerage connectivity for 8,045 households and improvements in solid waste management.
He praised Diu’s cleanliness and growing tourism and said the successful hosting of national-level beach sports events had further enhanced the region’s profile.
Calling upon young people to stay away from addiction and focus on constructive and positive pursuits, the Administrator urged citizens to strengthen social harmony, national unity and brotherhood and actively contribute to the nation’s development.
The celebrations concluded with a spirited rendition of ‘Vande Mataram’, followed by patriotic cultural performances. Awards were also presented for achievements in cleanliness and the upkeep of government buildings, panchayats and municipal wards.
