Alvarez has tried to amicably part ways with Atletico Madrid and fulfil his dream of joining Barcelona. However, the Rojiblancos have been adamant that they wouldn’t let him join a rival team.

Atleti have done everything in their power not to let Alvarez leave or even demand a transfer, but one reported clause in the Argentine’s contract could open the door for Barca to land him.

Julian Alvarez reportedly has €130 million clause in his contract to leave Atletico Madrid

Taking to X, insider Enric Canyellas responded to Spanish analyst Jose Alvarez of El Chiringuito, who had reported that Alvarez had a secret clause in his contract that allows him to leave for €120 million.

Canyellas claimed that the clause was actually worth €130 million, which he had on good authority from sources close to Alvarez.

“I’ve been assured that Julián Álvarez’s contract includes the well-known release clause, which is separate from the buyout clause.

“This clause can only be activated if Julián requests to leave voluntarily, and it’s only available to certain clubs, including Barça. The amount of the clause is €130 million. Jose Alvarez wasn’t far off the mark…”

He added that the clause must be paid in full, while Barcelona would prefer to pay the amount in instalments, which is why they tried negotiating a deal with Atletico Madrid.

Julian Alvarez reportedly insisted on €130 million release clause

Canyellas responded to a fan who asked why the clause was much lower than the €500 million release clause that Atletico Madrid have cited.

According to Canyellas, the €130 million clause was added to the contract at Alvarez’s request, as he had his eyes on a move to Barcelona in the future.

This situation with Alvarez, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid has been an incredibly long ordeal. There are some who believe Atletico Madrid are in the right to shut down Alvarez’s request.

However, there are others who feel that Atleti have made themselves look very poor by disrespecting a star player’s wishes and not engaging in a good-faith negotiation at his request.

With Alvarez not getting a chance to meet Diego Simeone earlier this week, there are reports that he is ready to go ‘scorched earth’ to ensure his move to Barca goes through.
