Longview native Haynes King set for NFL debut in Hall of Fame game

LONGVIEW, Texas (KETK)-- Former Longview Lobo Haynes King is expected to make his NFL debut for the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night in the league's annual Hall of Fame Game.
King was signed by Carolina earlier this year after not being selected during the NFL Draft and will enter Thursday's game looking to secure a spot as a backup quarterback with the Panthers, who already have two veteran quarterbacks on their roster.

East Texas 2026 NFL Draft recap: McCoy, Miller, King join NFL ranksPrior to entering the NFL, King was regarded as one of the best quarterbacks in the NCAA over the past couple of years and was named the 2025 ACC Player of the Year. Additionally, King received the Earl Campbell Award, which is bestowed on the nation’s top college offensive player who either hails from Texas or competes for a four-year Division I program in the state.
Outside of the success he sustained during his college career, King is remembered best by Longview residents for helping lead the Lobos to their most recent state title in 2018.
The Hall of Fame Game is expected to kick off at 7 p.m. on Thursday evening and will be aired on KETK, providing East Texans with their first glimpse of King's hopefully long NFL career.
