Cardinals QB Carson Beck Speaks After Historic Debut

Carson Beck has been maligned within the football world over the last 18 months. Maligned is even an understatement of sorts.

This wasn’t the case on Thursday night, when the third-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals shined in his professional debut against the Carolina Panthers.
Beck manned four drives in his first career start, completing 15-19 passes for 188 yards and one touchdown. The most important statistic in the 33-30 loss is that the Cardinals scored on three of Beck’s four drives.
The quarterback spoke with media for roughly 10 minutes following the game – clearly unable to contain his excitement in the process.
Beck Cherishes Opportunities Given to Him

The University of Miami product was candid when asked about how he approached the game mentally ahead of receiving the start.
“Since last night when I was laying in bed, I could barely sleep, just thinking about having an opportunity to play football again.”
Beck faces many questions as his NFL career gets underway, but his passion for the sport is challenging to question. The attention to detail, command of the huddle, and precision of his passes were simple confirmation that the Florida native puts in the requisite work to be great. A 49-yard connection with Jalen Brooks demonstrated that Beck has more than enough arm strength to match the work ethic.
What’s Next for Beck?

It remains unclear if named starter Jacoby Brissett will receive snaps in the preseason or not. Beck is positioned to see the field in an expansive role over the next three games regardless. It should be expected that the 6’4″ gunslinger will start Arizona’s game against the Green Bay Packers on August 28.
As far as regular season play is concerned, Cardinals fans should be looking at the November 29 contest against the Washington Commanders as a realistic target for Beck’s first start. This allows the 24-year old to avoid being rushed into Arizona’s most challenging string of games. It would also provide runway for Jacoby Brissett to maximize the different targets over this period.
Beck would receive six starts in this scenario, including games against the New York Jets and Las Vegas Raiders. This is enough of a litmus test for general manager Monti Ossenfort to decide on a path forward at quarterback.
Could Beck Keep Cardinals From Drafting QB?
Arizona did invest a valuable draft pick on Beck. This is undeniable.
However, the widespread belief is that the Cardinals will target one of the top quarterbacks in 2027. Arch Manning, Darian Mensah, and Dante Moore would be challenging to pass up on in the vent of earning a top five selection.
The other train of thought is that Beck playing incredible football would likely result in Arizona playing their way out of having a chance to draft one of the elite prospects at the QB position. At the end of the day, Beck will receive a fair shot to prove he is the future in Arizona – everything else will take care of itself.
