Dodgers Reveal Edwin Diaz Return Date From Injured List

The Los Angeles Dodgers are getting star closer Edwin Diaz back during their upcoming series after he has been on the injured list since April.

Diaz went down with loose bodies in his elbow, something that ended up affecting him during his last couple of performances.

The Dodgers took Diaz in for a deep scan and found that he had loose bodies in his elbow, an injury that is quite normal for a pitcher of his caliber who has been pitching for so long.

Diaz had a drop in velocity during his last two outings, a noticeable dip that led to the closer overthrowing and not being precise with his pitches.

The Colorado Rockies and Texas Rangers took advantage of his struggles, leading to him getting surgery on his right elbow.

Now, after slowly working himself back through the normal injury recovery process, Diaz is finally ready to complete his current lengthy rehab assignment and rejoin the Dodgers’ bullpen.

Manager Dave Roberts revealed that Diaz will be back activated on Wednesday, July 29th against the Seattle Mariners. Coincidentally, it is the same date as his bobblehead night.

Before coming back, he will make one more appearance for OKC Triple-A on Sunday and then rejoin the squad on Tuesday for his return.

“He came out of the back-to-back well,” Roberts said. “We talked about him flying across country; it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

“I think that he’s supposed to pitch on Sunday, and then if that goes well, he should be back with us when we get back on Tuesday.”

Diaz has made six appearances, totaling five innings, including two hits allowed, just one run, one walk, and nine strikeouts.

He also pitched with Ontario down in Single-A a couple of times and made some Arizona Complex League appearances.

The main trend is that his fastball looks more lively than before, and it is proving to be quite effective. His velocity has been inconsistent, but it reached around 97-98 mph, showing the potential to touch his upper limit.
