There are several players out of contract in 2027 who could end up sold during the current transfer window.
Curtis Jones is chief among them - with Inter Milan biding their time over a move for the £35m-rated playmaker.
Others - such as Harvey Elliott and Stefan Bajcetic may also leave owing to uncertainty over their contracts.
Liverpool need to resolve Alexis Mac Allister issue
Another issue Liverpool need to resolve is that of Alexis Mac Allister.
The Argentina FIFA World Cup star is out of contract in 2028 and there has been no discussion over a new deal as yet. It emerged during the World Cup that club bosses were planning talks once the tournament was at an end.
And Fichajes in Spain is now reporting that Chelsea under Xabi Alonso are planning to raid the Reds for the former Brighton man.
Chelsea willing to pay £70m for Mac Allister deal
“Chelsea have identified Liverpool's 27-year-old midfielder Alexis Mac Allister as a top target for the summer transfer window,” the report reads.
“Xabi Alonso's team is considering making a formal offer valued at 70 million pounds if the Merseyside club opens the door to his transfer, in a bidding war that also includes Real Madrid.
“Liverpool's transfer fee for the midfielder could rise to £80 million. This figure is based on the recent sale of Elliot Anderson to Manchester City for £116 million, raising the financial bar for negotiations with a direct Premier League rival.
“Chelsea will keep the lines of communication open with Alexis Mac Allister's entourage until the deadline of September 1st.”
Mac Allister, 27, remains on his summer break and isn’t expected to be included for the opening game of the Premier League season against Newcastle.
Alexis Mac Allister: Situation summary
Alexis Mac Allister is a 27-year-old Argentina midfielder who gives Liverpool control, intelligence and balance in the centre of the pitch.
He is at his best dictating tempo, receiving under pressure and connecting play between the lines, while also offering tidy defensive work and the tactical flexibility to play as a No. 6, No. 8 or advanced midfielder.
He is not a spectacularly explosive player, but he is a highly secure one: press-resistant, positionally smart and very good at making Liverpool function.
That makes him especially valuable in a team that needs one midfielder to keep the structure intact while others roam.
Contractually, Mac Allister is tied to Liverpool until 2028 and has said he is in no rush to discuss an extension. That keeps the situation open, with Real Madrid interest lingering in the background, but Liverpool still firmly in control of the timeline.
