It has been a World Cup to remember, with many across the United States provided an opportunity to watch soccer in their home nation for the very first time.
The likes of President Donald Trump and Gianni Infantino will have hoped this World Cup would broaden the soccer market in the United States.
However, it seems as if the final on Sunday in New Jersey may have had the opposite effect.
By no means was the game between Spain and Argentina a classic, but the tournament provided some of the truly great World Cup moments over the last six months.
Despite this, Bayless has wound up the Europeans through his analysis of Sunday’s final at MetLife Stadium.

A lot of Americans have embraced the World Cup and enjoyed what the tournament has been able to bring to their respective cities.
Sunday’s game between Spain and Argentina was a low-scoring affair, which is something that often puts off the American audience.
Taking to X, Bayless shared his frustrations after watching the 120-minute final, he said: “I was so excited for yesterday’s World Cup final – which left me flat. 1 goal in 120 minutes.”
“Spain won with suffocating defense that rendered the GOAT just another player. More stars in the stands than on the pitch. Soccer turned back into what it mostly always has been – boring.”
European soccer fans hit back at Skip Bayless’ World Cup final assessment
These comments have not gone down well with the Europeans, who feel as if Bayless is overlooking what was a thrilling tournament.
‘What is with these people treating one off games as a referendum on a sport,’ said one.
‘Skip Bayless is a big part of why so much sports discourse these days is aggressively ignorant and adversarial,” added another soccer fan.
Argentina failed to impress, which made it a difficult game for Spain to break down their defense as they looked to resist the attack of the eventual winners.
Having watched the Seattle Seahawks dominate the New England Patriots in February, one fan replied: ‘It’s funny because the Super Bowl this year was as equally one sided and dominated by defense.’
‘Hopefully they decide to never watch or comment on it again,” replied another fan.
One fan even responded: ‘Short attention span Americans.’
‘Spoken like a true casual. Game was great,’ replied one fan who actually enjoyed the game between Spain and Argentina.
