When you hear Cam Ward’s opinion on the basketball G.O.A.T. debate, you won’t be surprised one bit if you know anything about the Titans’ QB…

Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward hosted a youth football camp this past week, and the event produced some memorable soundbites that had nothing to do with football. During a content session at the camp, Ward fielded questions about LeBron James’ decision to leave the Los Angeles Lakers, and his answers revealed both his enthusiasm for the NBA and a basketball opinion that hoop heads will have some… choice thoughts about.

The LeBron James news broke during the camp, and Ward’s reaction was real-time. He started clapping his hands with a big smile on his face before delivering his verdict on where King Jamees should land next.

“LeBron, go team up with my boy Curry, get with the dynasty, gotta get you one more ring before you head out on us,” Ward said.

Ward is all-in on the Warriors

Ward seemed confident that James would head to the Bay Area to join Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors, which as of this writing appears to be the most likely scenario. Golden State has not been shy about its intention to pursue James, even though the franchise’s historical reputation for team stacking with ring-chasers would only grow stronger by adding him to the roster.

“People gonna call it cheating,” Ward said. “If I’m LeBron, I’m going to the Warriors. I’m trying to get a ring, right? I ain’t going to teams trying to lose. I’m trying to win. I’m going with Steph Curry.”

The Titans’ starting quarterback is a well-known basketball enthusiast. He played growing up, and on a personal level, I’ve heard him talk hoops firsthand on multiple occasions. Last year during Thanksgiving at a rookie charity event at a local YMCA, I was in attendance and around the players. At the end of the event, Ward was asking teammates if anyone wanted to stick around and get some shots up in the gym before heading home. The guy loves his basketball.

Cam’s hottest NBA take tells you everything about him

Ward was also asked whether LeBron James is the greatest basketball player of all time. The question was an obvious allusion to the perpetual LeBron vs. Jordan debate, but Ward’s answer went in a different direction entirely.

“No, he’s not,” Ward said. “Kobe Bryant’s the best player to ever touch the basketball.”

For those who know Ward, this absolutely tracks. He is a player who clearly lives his life by some version of the Mamba Mentality, and the way he approaches his own game on the football field reflects that same competitive edge Kobe was famous for. Is it the most statistically sound take? Let’s be honest, it’s not. But it’s not surprising at all that Bryant is Ward’s pick, given the way Tennessee’s quarterback carries himself.
