Hours after retaining Jamir Watkins as a two-way player, the Washington Wizards have made a roster decision on another.
The Wizards announced on Wednesday afternoon that forward Leaky Black has been waived.

The news comes after Watkins filled one of the three two-way deals once the team officially announced his contracts. Julian Reese is currently expected to return to fill one of those slots after averaging a double double as a rookie with 11.8 points and 10.5 rebounds while shooting nearly 53% from the field. Former Tennessee forward Felix Okpara was acquired in the second round of the 2026 NBA Draft after the Wizards packaged both second round picks to address the frontcourt where he is also a candidate to become a two-way player as a rookie during the 2026-27 season.

As for Black, the news comes after a limited appearance in his lone season with the organization. After appearing in 15 games and starting in nine, Black averaged 7.1 points and five rebounds per game while shooting under 39% from the field and 34.5% from three while playing just shy of 29 minutes per game.
All but one appearance came after March 1 as the Wizards battled limited roster availability to end what proved to be a 17-win season under head coach Brian Keefe, while Black posted five double figure scoring games including four in March. His season high came back on March 5 when he scored 16 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the field, though he shot just 31% from the field over his final six games in a Wizard uniform.
Black also appeared in 14 games for the Capital City Go-Go as a two-way player where he averaged 10.9 points and 6.3 rebounds while shooting 43.5% from the field in nearly 35 minutes. He made his NBA debut with the Charlotte Hornets during the 2023-24 season when he started in three games and appeared in 26, averaging just under 11 minutes per game, as he averaged 2.7 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.9 assists.

He scored 106 points on 40/103 from the field (36.8%), 19/65 from 3 (34.5%), 7/8 FT (87.5%), in 433 minutes played (15 GP).

A former blue chip prospect out of North Carolina, Black entered the NBA after going undrafted following the 2023 NBA Draft.
The roster move also gives Washington slightly more roster flexibility after entering the offseason with more decisions to make about the current players than outside the organization, though the front office could turn to the frontcourt with a chance to still use the mid-level exception in free agency.
