When a team secures the technical genius of Adrian Newey, the Formula 1 paddock expects an immediate, structural revolution. For Aston Martin, that highly anticipated overhaul is officially scheduled to hit the tarmac at the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix.
After spending the first half of the 2026 season grappling with a compromised chassis, Newey is orchestrating a massive mid-season intervention. The Hungarian Diet for Aston Martin
According to recent statements from Newey, Aston Martin will deploy a comprehensive update package to both cars in Budapest. The defining characteristic of this upgrade isn’t just new carbon fiber shapes; it is a ruthless, targeted weight reduction program.
“It’s a major aerodynamic package combined with a significant weight reduction,” Newey confirmed.
In the ground-effect era, carrying extra bulk is a massive handicap that heavily punishes a car’s tire management, low-speed rotation, and straight-line top speed. The primary objective of the Hungary package is to finally drag the AMR26 down into competitive territory by getting the car as close to the FIA minimum weight limit as mechanically possible.
Also, rather than panic-building an entirely new car, Newey and the engineering team have opted for strategic efficiency.
The underlying skeleton of the vehicle will remain intact, as both the core chassis architecture and the gearbox are fundamentally unchanged. However, the design team has managed to painstakingly shave excess weight off both of these existing components.
Mechanically, the suspension geometry is seeing a similarly pragmatic approach. The front suspension layout has not been altered at all. Meanwhile, the rear suspension has only undergone slight modifications.
A New Face for the AMR26
While the mechanical underpinnings are largely familiar, the airflow over the car will be radically different. Newey revealed that the team has completely redeveloped the front end of the vehicle and executed substantial revisions across all primary aerodynamic surfaces.
