Florida baseball lands power-hitting catcher from Samford
· Yahoo Sports
Samford catcher Everett “Eddie” Marshall committed to the Florida Gators on Wednesday.
Marshall, a sophomore, slashed .252/.333/.553 with an .886 over 141 plate appearances with the Bulldogs last season. The 6-foot-1-inch, 205-pounder has a physical frame and a plus power tool. He showed power to all fields as a freshman, hitting 12 home runs with a .301 ISO — where .250 and above is considered elite.

There is some swing-and-miss in his bat with a 26.2% strikeout rate, but he walks a fair amount too (9.9 BB%). Defensively, Marshall should stick at catcher, but he figures to get some time in as a designated hitter with Jon Embury also transferring from FGCU. Marshall can also slot in at first base, if needed.

Ranked the No. 264 overall player in Florida out of the class of 2025, Marshall has had a dominant prep career at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale. As a junior, he led the Chiefs to their first state championship in 37 years. He was one of those hitters who had a chance to do something big every time he stepped to the plate and led his teammates with a maturity rarely seen at that level.
"Eddie was one of the best leaders we have at Cardinal Gibbons during our 30 years in the business," Chiefs manager Jason Hamilton said. "He is highly respected in our Gibbons community. He was a one-man wrecking crew during our 2024 State Championship run, and my staff and I are all very fortunate to have been able to coach him.
"Florida is getting a tireless worker who is hungry and will do anything that he can to be great."
Marshall also played for the Original Florida Pokers travel ball organization that won a BCS National Championship and a WWBA Underclass World Championship — two of the biggest tournaments in that realm of the sport.
