MADLANGA COMMISSION: HAWKS’ KARL SANDER HEARTBROKEN OVER STOLEN COFFEE MACHINE
In a moment that has stood out in the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, Warrant Officer Karl Sander revealed his annoyance at having his coffee machine stolen.
The senior narcotics investigator explained that his property, along with others, went missing from the Durban Hawks’ office, and he was perceived as a suspect in the theft.
He said in a clip that has gone viral on social media.
“I work outside, I’m an outdoor person. My only safe space was my coffee machine, and then they stole my coffee machine inside the DPCI.”
He continued: “Sorry, I am laughing about it. It’s still so annoying because I had to get polygraphed for the theft of my own coffee machine.”
“I passed, I just wanted my coffee machine back. I didn’t get it back.”

BACKABUDDY CAMPAIGN RAISES ALMOST R500K
Karl Sander’s testimony before the Madlanga Commission touched the hearts of many South Africans, who dug deep into their pockets to buy him a new coffee machine.
While the initial goal was set at just R5 000, a BackaBuddy campaign titled “Let’s get W/O Sander a new coffee machine” has already raised over R400 000 in just a few days.
The campaign was started by Kyle van Reenen, with the description reading: “To some, it may just be a coffee machine. To Warrant Officer Sanders, it was a small comfort during long days of service. A moment of peace. A simple reward earned through four decades of sacrifice and dedication to his community.
“Today, we have an opportunity to give something back to a man who has spent a lifetime giving to others. Let’s show Warrant Officer Sanders that his service matters. That his sacrifices have not gone unnoticed, and that South Africans stand behind those who stand for…”
BackaBuddy revealed that it was experiencing a high volume of traffic, likely as a result of the coffee machine campaign.
