Condition in Myles Garrett trade could turn Rams' 3rd-rounder into a 1st

The Myles Garrett trade made waves in the NFL after the Cleveland Browns sent the reigning Defensive Player of the Year to the Los Angeles Rams. In exchange, the Rams sent the Browns edge rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick and a conditional 2029 third-round pick.

That 2029 pick is intriguing, though, because of those conditions the Browns put on it. According to Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot, that 2029 third-round pick turns into a first-round pick if the Rams subsequently trade Garrett to any of the other AFC North teams: the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Baltimore Ravens or the Cincinnati Bengals.
This is an interesting wrinkle because it limits what the Rams can do with Garrett if he doesn't work out with the team. And it prevents Garrett from joining a key rival of the team that drafted him No. 1 overall in 2017.
Now, all signs point to the Rams keeping Garrett on the roster as long as they can afford him. He's one of the best defensive players of his generation and averages nearly 16 sacks per season.
But for all the talk of how little the Rams had to give up to acquire Garrett, this condition to a third-round pick three years down the road surely changes the math a little bit if the Rams did end up trading Garrett to an AFC North team. However, there are still 27 other teams who would surely love to have Garret on their squad if he no longer becomes part of the Rams' plans over the next few years.
