According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the 2029 third-round pick the Browns received in the trade is conditional and can become a first-rounder.
In order for that to happen, the Rams would have to trade Garrett to an AFC North team at some point down the road.
“The condition on the Browns 2029 3rd round pick? It becomes a 1st if the Rams trade Myles Garrett into the AFC North,” Cabot wrote.
Of course, the AFC North is the Browns’ division and Cleveland wants to make sure that it does not have to face its former superstar twice a year at any point in the future.
Along with the conditional 2029 third-round pick, the Browns also received edge rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick.
Would the Rams ever trade Myles Garrett?
In the short term, absolutely not.
The Rams are going for it and that figures to be the case for at least the next few years.
However, Garrett is under contract through 2030, when he’ll be 35 years old.

Decline is inevitable in professional sports and if Garrett’s career hits the skids and the Rams look to rebuild in the next handful of years, they could definitely trade him.
That said, by the time the Rams even think about trading Garrett, he will not be the player he is now, thus the Browns wouldn’t have to worry about him wreaking havoc on them.
Why Rams traded for Myles Garrett
The Rams didn’t have a dire need at edge rusher with guys like Verse and Byron Young, but there’s no question Garrett makes the Rams’ defense better.
This is just the latest example of the Rams trying to capitalize on their Super Bowl window while Matthew Stafford is still around.
Stafford is 38 years old and is pretty much on a year-to-year basis at this point, but he’s still playing at a high level and as long as that is the case, the Rams are contenders.

Acquiring Garrett only improves the Rams’ standing, which is important because Los Angeles plays in one of the best divisions in the NFL that includes the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, who sport an elite defense.
With the additions of Garrett, Jaylen Watson and Trent McDuffie this year, the Rams closed the gap with the Seahawks defensively and that gives them a better chance to win the division and get past Seattle in the postseason.
