Toronto duo charged with human trafficking; massage therapist accused of sex assault

A man and a woman from Toronto face multiple charges in connection with a human-trafficking investigation.

Toronto Police began a probe in April after it was alleged that a 23-year-old victim was trafficked through a combination of deception, coercion and control.

It’s further alleged the money earned by the victim was surrendered to the accused and was kept by them and that the victim was transported by the accused to different locations to meet clients to perform sexual services

On Friday, investigators executed a search warrant at a Toronto address.

Kailen Richard Wareham, 35, and Ava Ashouri, 27, are each charged with procuring; trafficking in persons over 18; financial/material benefit/trafficking a person over 18; withhold/destroy travel or identity document/trafficking person; material benefit from sexual services; advertising another person’s sexual services; and uttering threats.

Police believe there may be more victims.

Massage therapist accused of sex assault

York Regional Police have charged a massage therapist in connection with a sexual assault in Vaughan.

Cops said that on May 9, the victim was at a massage appointment at a wellness clinic in the Rutherford Rd.-Vellore Woods Blvd. area when they were allegedly touched in a sexual manner.

On May 11, Thong (Tony) Tran, 55, of Brampton was arrested and charged with sexual assault.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims.

Man wanted for aggravated assault

Toronto Police are requesting the public’s help in locating a man wanted for aggravated assault and other offences.

Police responded on Saturday to a call for an assault in the Lawrence Ave. E.-Kingston Rd. area.

It’s alleged that the suspect approached the victim in the hallway of an apartment building, engaged in a verbal argument and then punched and kicked the victim several times.

Cops said the victim has serious, non-life-threatening injuries and that the victim and suspect are not known to each other.

Omar Attia, 33, of no fixed address, is wanted for aggravated assault, robbery and failure to comply with a probation order.
