Hunter Carns records 5 RBI to lead FSU baseball past Stetson, 9-2

· Yahoo Sports

Hunter Carns was responsible for seven of Florida State baseball's nine runs scored in a 9-2 win over Stetson on Tuesday, April 14.

Carns went 3-for-5, the lone player with multiple hits for the No. 8 Seminoles (25-11, 9-6 ACC), and recorded a career high five RBI alongside a pair of runs scored. He hit a three-run home run in the third inning, his third of the season, and followed that with a two-RBI double in the seventh inning with the bases loaded.

He's had four multi-hit games since April 2, and he's provided a spark for an offense that has labored at times without Myles Bailey.

Carns' home run came in an inning where the Seminoles struck out four times, Cal Fisher reached on a dropped third strike, and it was one of the lone moments of offense in the game for the team.

In total, FSU struck out 10 times, an 18th time this season the lineup had double-digit strikeouts, and the seventh time in the last 10 games, and recorded eight hits, three of which came off the bat of Carns.

Cooper Whithed started for the Seminoles, and he retired the first six batters he faced. He threw three innings total, with one hit allowed and an unearned run to go alongside three strikeouts. FSU used five pitchers, with 12 total strikeouts recorded, seven hits allowed, and two runs scored, one earned.

FSU scored the first run of the game in the first inning on a fielding error that allowed John Stuetzer to score. Stetson tied the game with an RBI single in the third, but Carns quickly put FSU back ahead with his three-run blast, a 4-1 lead for FSU through three innings.

An RBI single in the sixth made it 4-2, but a five-spot for the Seminoles in the seventh blew the game open. Carns' double scored two, and that was followed by a two-run double from Nathan Cmeyla, who then scored on a single from Brody DeLamielleure to go ahead 9-2.

Ben Barrett pitched the ninth, and he ended the game with a double play and a groundout.
