Meanwhile, right-hander Clarke Schmidt tossed off a mound earlier today for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery last summer.
"Progressing really nice,'' said Schmidt, who threw 10 fastballs. He hopes to begin facing hitters sometime in June, with a big-league ETA at some point in the second half.
"I don't want to look too, too far ahead,'' said Schmidt, with a lot of ground to cover before his return. But he was "really encouraged'' by the crispness of his pitches Friday and "how normal it felt.''
