Monday started well for Coventry, as Millwall slumped to a shocking 2-1 home defeat to Norwich City.
Middlesbrough also dropped points from their Championship game, with Swansea City holding them to a 2-2 draw.
But Coventry failed to take advantage of the results and suffered a stalemate at Hull.
Ipswich Town, however, climbed into second place by winning their home encounter against Birmingham City.
This means the Sky Blues will now keep an eye on Boro and Millwall.
The two teams currently sit on 72 points after playing the same number of matches as Coventry.
Ipswich’s points tally is the same but they have two games in hand over their rivals.
When can Coventry seal Premier League promotion?
Lampard’s side need four more points from their remaining five fixtures to secure a place in the English top-flight.
Although considering their vastly superior goal difference of +42, three points should be enough to seal promotion for the West Midlands outfit.
If Boro and Millwall drop points this weekend, Coventry will secure automatic promotion with victory over Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
If not, four points from their fixtures against Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers would guarantee their Premier League spot.
