SpVgg Greuther Fürth II 1-1 Bayern II (U-23s), Matchday 24
Bayern lineup (with subs): Bärtl – Manuba, Heindl, Puljić, Schuhbauer (74. Sadat) – Rüger, Deziel Jr., Heinz – Yanda, Darboe, Scott.
Goals: 0:1 Heindl (56.), 1:1 Akhalaia (61.).
Unused subs: Ruland – Olychenko, Chemwor, Gashi.
Position: 6., 37 points
Unavailable players: Tim Binder, Leon Klanac, Steve Breitkreuz, Younes Aitamer, Louis Richter, David Santos Daiber, Artur Degraf, Benno Schmitz, Maycon Cardozo*, Guido Della Rovere*, Deniz Ofli* (*- with senior team)
Injuries and suspensions by the senior team, as well as the U-23’s injuries, rather decimated the squad. Only 11 outfielders in the U-23s squad remained and every one of them played, while three U-19 players were called up for this match. It resulted in an unsurprisingly tepid performance by the U-23s which did not warrant more than a point.
Their next match will be Wednesday, April 1, away to SV Wacker.
Hannover U-19s 3-2 Bayern U-19s, Matchday 7
Bayern line-up (with subs): Kösters – Ajayi (59. Hentcho Nseke), Pucci, Schäfer, Horvath (90. Bohomo) – Schmid, Lambe – Snip, Matosevic (77. Horoszczak), Egwuatu, Codjo-Evora (77. Zöls).
Goals: 1:0 Reinhold (2.), 2:0 Schwarz (27.), 2:1 Codjo-Evora (31.), 2:2 Egwuatu (51.), 3:2 Lorenz (76.)
Red cards: Ole Wegner (Hannover), 39.
What an aggravating loss this was. Bayern traveled to 5th place Hannover, knowing they could essentially seal progression to the final phase with a win here. Bayern had a 5 point lead over their opponents ahead of the match and could have stretched it to 8 with a win with 3 games remaining. Going down 2:0 within 27 minutes seemed to kill the chance to do so, but Noah Codjo-Evora halved the deficit and the red card in the 39. minute gave Bayern full control. The team got the equalizer and created multiple big chances to take the lead, none bigger than a penalty Michael Matosevic unfortunately missed.
Then Hannover would take advantage of the misses. Bayern’s U-19s’ third choice goalkeeper got his first appearance of the season in this game due to the first team and U-23’s goalkeeping in injuries. Though Michael Kösters did not put in a bad performance on the day, he unfortunately allowed far too much space at his near post in the 76th minute and the opposition duly took advantage. Now Hannover are in the hunt to catch Bayern.
