The Philadelphia Phillies, since their miraculous postseason run in 2022, have been trying to ride the same wave in the years since. While 2023 was good, the last two years have been major let-downs.

Most of the team is back in 2026, but there have been some very notable changes. Nick Castellanos, Ranger Suarez, and Matt Strahm are all gone. But those aren't the only players on their way out this season.

According to Ty Daubert of Phillies Nation, the Phillies made their MLB roster decision at catcher and will be moving on from "Chief Vibes Officer" Garrett Stubbs. The veteran failed to make the Opening Day roster and is now on his way out of Philadelphia.

Phillies to try and find trade partner for Garrett Stubbs

"Rafael Marchan has made the team, Dave Dombrowski said," Daubert reported. "Phillies will look around for a trade for Garrett Stubbs. If nothing materializes by Wednesday, they'll DFA him."

This is some significant news for the Phillies, as for the first time in a while, Stubbs won't just be on the Major League roster, but he's going to be released by the Phillies organization entirely.

Last year, he wasn't the backup catcher, with Marchan taking that job in Stubbs' place. But the "Chief Vibes Officer" was still on the Phillies payroll, playing in the minors before making one at-bat for the Phillies in 2025.

Stubbs once again failed to make the Opening Day roster over Marchan, and this time, he's looking like he'll be released by the Phillies if they cannot find a trade partner for the veteran 32-year-old backup catcher.

He had a .727 OPS this spring, has plenty of experience, and could find a home on an MLB roster as a backup catcher. But that home won't be with the Phillies.

Stubbs, after spending the last four years with the team and becoming well-known for his locker room antics and celebrations after big wins, will be headed elsewhere this season.
