The Kansas City Chiefs' run game was a main focus of the offseason, and with Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt free agents, the franchise had to do something.

Last year, the run game wasn't good, as Patrick Mahomes had to do it all himself through the air.

The Chiefs signed Kenneth Walker, fresh off a Super Bowl win, and now he gives the offense some serious juice and better production than what Pacheco and Hunt gave Kansas City last year.

But one Walker stat via CBS Sports' Garrett Podell shows just how poor the run game was last year, and how good Walker can be for Kansas City in 2026.

"Walker is a massive upgrade from the duo of Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco that was the least explosive running back tandem for two years running," Podell wrote. "Walker had more 25-yard runs on one drive in Super Bowl LX, two, than the Chiefs' running back room did in all of 2025, just one."

Walker set to transform Chiefs?

Just looking at the stat Podell gave, you can see what the Chiefs are getting.

No more one or two-yard runs (although there will be some), but Walker will burst through for big gains if he isn't stopped.

The Chiefs haven't had that type of danger in the run game for years. Now they do.

Of course, it won't always be high-octane stuff, as the offensive line has to create the holes for Walker to run through, but at least Kansas City has a stud back who can help dictate what a defense does.

But that Podell stat is jarring. The Chiefs' run game was horrific last season.

Now, in 2026, with Walker leading the way, maybe the offense will be transformed.
